The Queen Mary 2, New York to Southampton , Jan. 3–11, 2024— The Wrap-Up

After our last bridge lessons, final laps around the deck, the Roaring Twenties gala evening, and goodbyes to our new friends — and, finally, some sunshine — our QM2 crossing is over.

So — Did eight days on Cunard’s QM2 sway me away from considering Holland America my “home" cruise line?

Both Holland America and Cunard are owned by Carnival Cruise Line & plc. These two “sister” lines attract a slightly older crowd who tend to prefer older, stately, medium-sized ships instead of the latest mega ships with multi-deck waterslides and bumper cars. They enjoy a bit more tradition and formality, including dressing for dinner, live music, attractive lounges, and onboard lectures and minicourses.

No, Cunard did not pull me away from Holland America, but it did win me over for a special experience, and I hope to sprinkle another Cunard cruise or two amongst my future Holland Cruises.

Here are my reasons that are based not so much on quality as on what it is that I want from a cruise.
